A performance engaging with Modern Greek History

Akademie der Künste | Agora Artes | Academy of Arts, Berlin 2015

Initiating from the revolution of 1821, the creation of the independent Greek state in 1830, and crossing through a domino of sociopolitical turning points and decisions, we arrive today at an effort to understand and confront the policies that shape our days – redefining the conditions that we live and work in. What is homeland? What is racism and fascism today? In the name of which homeland have we been through successive wars? What is the purpose of cultivating division and of engaging on extreme opposite sides? Brothers were killing one another in the Civil War of 1946-49. The humanity was split in two during the Cold War. It always takes effort to confront the burden of history. But often in order to take a step forward, theres a step back.
